Who Is Richard Orlinski?

Richard-Orlinski

Richard Orlinski is a French contemporary artist who began his artistic career in 2004. His first representative work was a bright red resin crocodile, after which he gradually developed a creative system centered on animal imagery. His inspiration mainly comes from popular culture, everyday objects, and popular visual symbols. His works often feature animals such as gorillas, crocodiles, bears, and lions, and he has formed a personal style with bright colors and geometric shapes. Wild Kong is one of his most representative series, which has spawned different versions such as Wild Kong Oil, Wild Kong Love, and Wild Kong Earth.

Yes, there is a clear creative connection between Orlinski Wild Kong and King Kong. Richard Orlinski’s official description of the classic Wild Kong directly states that the artist drew inspiration from the King Kong character in the film.

However, Wild Kong is not the same as the King Kong in the movie. Richard Orlinski has given this classic gorilla prototype a distinctly contemporary artistic treatment: the body surface is transformed into recognizable geometric facets, the colors and materials deviate from the real animal’s appearance, and new themes are constantly introduced to Kong through various props such as hearts, the Earth, and oil drums.

What Is the Wild Kong Oil Sculpture?

Wild Kong Oil is Richard Orlinski’s extended version of the Wild Kong image. The work retains the iconic, powerful gorilla form, standing with legs apart, its shoulders and arms significantly emphasized, and its body surface composed of multiple geometric planes and folds. Unlike the classic Wild Kong’s chest-pounding pose, this piece raises its arms high, supporting a large oil drum, making the drum the most striking visual element.

According to Richard Orlinski’s official explanation, the oil drum symbolizes oil pollution and industrial environmental pressure, while the gorilla represents the power of nature. It uses its own strength to escape this threat and is given a role in protecting the natural environment. Therefore, this work, through the combination of “wildlife and industrial oil drum,” creates a stark contrast between nature and industry.

Our Bronze Wild Kong Oil Sculpture Factory Project

This project is a custom-made bronze sculpture of Wild Kong Oil completed by our factory. The client wanted a large, display-quality bronze gorilla sculpture inspired by Richard Orlinski’s Wild Kong Oil, retaining the core image of him holding up an oil drum.

4 Bronze gorilla side view with raised barrel

The sculpture depicts a powerful gorilla standing with its legs apart, arms raised high above its head, supporting a horizontally placed metal oil drum. The mouth is wide open, with exaggerated brow bones, nose, and jaw, creating a distinct roaring expression. The body is not sculpted entirely according to the muscular structure of a real gorilla, but retains Wild Kong Oil’s signature geometric facets; the chest, shoulders, arms, and legs are composed of large folds, giving the silhouette a more rugged look.

The main body of the sculpture is made of bronze, finished with a reddish-brown metallic surface, while the oil drum on the head is finished in a grayish-silver effect, clearly distinguishing it from the main body. The broad shoulders and raised arms enhance the sense of power in the upper body, while the bent legs and black square base maintain the overall structural stability.

5 production process of Wild Kong Oil

We first created a life-size foam model to confirm the overall proportions, pose, and details of the Wild Kong sculpture. Then, we made a mold and used lost-wax casting to complete each bronze part. After casting, we welded and assembled the bronze parts, polished and finished them, and finally applied surface coloring and protective treatment to complete the entire bronze Wild Kong Oil sculpture.
