1. Introduction of Water Seller Statue
Eugeny Lanceray (Yevgeny Alexandrovich Lanceray, 1848–1886) was an important 19th-century Russian bronze sculptor, particularly skilled in depicting cavalry, nomadic peoples, travelers, animals, and folk scenes. This Water Seller Statue, pointing to the Algerian Kabir people, portrays the daily labor of a North African water seller.
In this sculpture, the water seller stands on the right, wearing a hooded robe, his hands raised, holding a short donkey-driving stick across his shoulder. His expression is serene, as if he is taking a brief stop on his journey. Two donkeys carry numerous water jugs and pottery; the jugs, ropes, saddles, and cloth are detailed, indicating their function in transporting and selling water. The base is sculpted as an uneven, earthen surface. The entire bronze Water Seller Statue combines the water seller, donkeys, water jugs, and the travel environment into a complete scene of daily life.
