1. Introduction of Spear Bearer Sculpture
This sculpture is a replica of the famous ancient Greek work, Doryphoros (The Spear-Holder), created by the ancient Greek sculptor Polykleitos around 450-440 BC. The young male figure in this Spear Bearer Sculpture is depicted nude, not standing rigidly, but in the classic Contrapposto pose, with one leg bearing weight while the other is relaxed.
This sculpture retains the main stylistic features of Doryphoros: the head is slightly turned to one side, the facial expression is serene, the short hair lies close to the head, and the body’s muscle lines are simplified, emphasizing the structural relationship between the chest, abdomen, shoulders, and legs. The original held a spear, hence the name “The Spear-Holder.” Although current replicas typically omit the spear, the posture still conveys the power and rational beauty of ancient Greek male sculpture.
