1. Introduction of Portrait Bust of Caracalla

Caracalla (188–217 AD) was the second emperor of the Severan dynasty of the Roman Empire. He was known for his tough military policies and centralized rule during his reign. One of his most well-known political achievements was the issuance of the Constitutio Antoniniana in 212 AD, which extended Roman citizenship to freemen throughout the empire and greatly changed the social structure of the empire. Caracalla’s ruling style was arbitrary and decisive, but also accompanied by violence and purges, and his historical image is controversial. This Portrait Bust of Caracalla truly reproduces the appearance and charm of this Roman emperor.

This Empire Bust vividly depicts Caracalla’s portrait features: thick curly hair, short beard and furrowed brow, creating a majestic and alert facial expression. He wears the classic Roman cloak (paludamentum), which is fastened with a buckle on the right shoulder and has natural folds. The word “CARACALLA” is engraved on the front seat of the chest. The Portrait Bust of Caracalla is cast in dark bronze, with a naturally formed patina on parts of the surface, and the cape on the back shows a mottled texture of time.
