1. Introduction of Ceres Goddess Sculpture
Ceres is the Roman goddess of agriculture, grain, and harvest, corresponding to Demeter in Greek mythology. She is closely associated with crop growth, fertility, and the changing seasons, holding a significant place in ancient Roman religion and art. This Ceres Goddess Sculpture, titled Bust of Ceres, created around 1770-1780, is attributed to the French sculptor Guillaume Boichot (1735-1814).
This Ceres Goddess Sculpture is sculpted from white marble, depicting the goddess’s head, shoulders, and chest. The figure has a rounded face, a flat forehead, a straight nose, naturally closed lips, and a head slightly turned to one side, conveying a gentle expression. A finely carved floral crown adorns her head, featuring a central blooming rose surrounded by leaves and flowers of varying sizes, with some curled hair cascading over her shoulders. The goddess in the Ceres Goddess Statue is dressed in a wide, classical robe, with thick fabric covering one shoulder and secured with a floral clasp on the other, creating naturally overlapping folds at the chest.
