Igor Mitoraj, a Polish-Italian sculptor, was born in the Auschwitz prisoner-of-war camp in Germany in 1944 and grew up in Poland. In his early years, he studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow, and later went to Paris for further studies and turned to sculpture. Since 1983, he has set up a studio in Pietrasanta, Italy, focusing on bronze and marble sculptures. Mitoraj’s art is deeply influenced by the ancient Greek and Roman traditions, but he uses “fracture” as a language to explore human fragility, memory and the incompleteness of divinity. This Broken Face Statue is one of Mitoraj’s most representative “fractured head” series.
The Igor Mitoraj Sculpture is based on a huge male head, with only the main outline of the face, missing the top of the head, ears and part of the edge, showing a broken state. The Broken Face Statue carefully depicts the eye sockets, nose bridge and lips, with clear and smooth outlines, and the eyes are empty without pupils, as if frozen in a quiet expression, neither closed nor staring. The surface of the copper surface has been oxidized, showing a dark brown to turquoise mottled texture, adding a sense of history and traces of time. Arturban Statue can customize various replica statues. Welcome to contact us for more details.
