1. Introduction of Arabic Maiden Statue
This early 20th-century gilt bronze sculpture is a figure by the Belgian artist Ernest Wante (1872–1960). The Arabic Maiden Statue depicts an Arab girl standing on a green pedestal, a double-handled earthenware pot resting on her head. One hand is raised to support the pot, while the other is bent at her side, her posture stable and elegant, as if pausing briefly during a walk. Her expression is serene, her long hair and headscarf flowing naturally, exhibiting a distinctly Orientalist decorative style.
The work is made of bronze. The figure wears a wide-sleeved robe and a shawl-like outer garment, with layers of folds. The chest, waist, cuffs, and hem of the robe are adorned with intricate patterns and beads. The reddish-brown water pot on her head contrasts with the green pedestal, creating a layered effect that enhances the decorative feel of this Arabic Maiden Statue.
