1. Introduction of Berber Girl Statue
Marius Joseph Saïn (1877–1961) was a French sculptor, born in Avignon, who studied and created art within the French academic art environment. His works often feature figures, historical subjects, and Orientalist imagery, frequently using clothing, posture, and surface treatment to express the figures’ identities. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the French art world showed a strong interest in North African themes, particularly the Berber people, the indigenous people of North Africa, more commonly known today as the Amazigh. Titled Jeune Berbère, this Berber Girl Statue portrays a young Berber girl wrapped in a heavy cloak.
The figure wears a headscarf and is wrapped in a heavy wool cloak, her hands close to her chest, her posture quiet and reserved, as if walking outdoors or warding off the cold. The cloak drapes naturally from her shoulders to her feet, the folds of the fabric unfolding vertically, and the feet and small base are faintly visible. The bronze surface has a golden patina, which further accentuates the fabric folds and the figure’s contours. | Step 6: Patina and wax surface | We will paint the color as the image the customer sent, then make wax surface. When finished statue, also I will take photos for your reference. After you are satisfied with all, I will arrange packing and shipment. |
