1. Introduction of Capitoline Venus Statue
This sculpture belongs to the classic “Capitoline Venus” type, a reinterpretation of the image of Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love, during the ancient Roman period. This type is characterized by the “Venus Pudica” pose, where the figure gently covers key parts of her body with both hands, embodying both subtlety and restraint while enhancing overall elegance; it is one of the most representative Venus poses. Visually, the figure in the Capitoline Venus Statue stands upright on a pedestal, one leg bearing weight while the other is slightly bent, creating a natural shift in the body’s center of gravity.
The right hand rests lightly on the chest, while the left hand is positioned below the abdomen, forming the signature covering gesture. The head is slightly turned to the side, the facial expression serene and gentle, exhibiting the tranquility characteristic of classical sculpture.
