1. Introduction of Seated Pharaoh Statue
This massive Pharaoh Statue dates from the 12th Dynasty of the Middle Kingdom of Ancient Egypt, dating from approximately 1919 to 1878 BC. Scholars speculate that it may represent either Amenemhat II or Senusert II. The Seated Pharaoh Statue is carved from granodiorite, a hard, dense stone that imbues it with a weighty and majestic presence. It originated in the Tanis region of Egypt’s eastern delta and is now on display in the collection of the Berlin State Museum.
The Pharaoh Sculpture depicts a typical pose of royal authority: the pharaoh sits upright on a heavy stone pedestal, his hands resting flat on his thighs, his body erect and erect, exuding absolute majesty and composure. His facial features are resolute and his expression restrained, reflecting the idealized character of Middle Kingdom sculpture. The pharaoh in the Seated Pharaoh Statue wears a traditional royal headdress.
