Pierre-Jean de Béranger (1780–1857) was a famous French satirist and folk singer in the 19th century. He was known as the “poet of the people”. He wrote songs and poems in easy-to-understand language, mostly criticizing current politics, satirizing aristocrats, and calling for freedom and democracy, which had a huge impact on the French general public. During the Napoleonic, Bourbon Restoration and July Monarchy periods, Béranger’s works caused controversy many times and he was even imprisoned. This bronze Male Head Bust vividly reproduces Béranger’s facial features when he was older.
The figure’s head is slightly lowered, his facial features are three-dimensional, and his eyes are subtle and deep, showing his thoughtful and wise side. His hair in the Male Head Bust is sparse and his temples droop naturally, showing an elegant ripple shape, which is in line with the typical style of a French family intellectual in the 19th century. The word “BERANGER” is engraved on the front of the base, and the year “1857” is marked on the back to commemorate the year of his death. Arturban Statue can customize various bust statues.
