1. Introduction of Llywelyn the Great Sculpture
Llywelyn the Great, or Llywelyn Fawr in Welsh, was born around 1173 and died in 1240. He was one of the most important rulers in medieval Welsh history. Originally a prince of the Kingdom of Gwynedd, Llywelyn expanded his power through war, marriage, and political alliances, becoming one of the most influential leaders in Wales in the early 13th century. This Llywelyn the Great Sculpture depicts a medieval king.
The figure wears a crown, a robe, and a cloak, his right hand holding aloft a longsword, his left leg resting on a rocky platform, his posture solemn and powerful. The hunting dog beside him echoes the Gelert, the loyal dog of Welsh legend, symbolizing loyalty, protection, and sacrifice. The Llywelyn the Great Sculpture is made entirely of white marble, with clear details on the clothing, crown, sword, boots, and dog.
