This sculpture depicts the final scene of Hercules’ life in Greek mythology. The robe is tainted with the poison of the Hydra. When Hercules puts it on, the poison quickly seeps into his skin, and the fiery pain causes him to tear at the garment and writhe in agony. Cast in bronze, this Hercules Roman Statue boasts breathtaking detail.
The Roman Hercules Statue captures the moment Hercules tears at the poisoned robe with his hands, his body twisting violently, muscles tensing and tendons visible. The bronze has been meticulously polished and oxidized, imparting a deep, patina. The powerful lines of his chest and arms are clearly visible, and the movements of his hands are imbued with tension. The robe billows between his fingers, its edges shattering, a dynamic and fluid expression of intense pain and resistance.
