The bald eagle (scientific name Haliaeetus leucocephalus) is a large sea eagle endemic to North America, belonging to the genus Haliaeetus in the family Accipitridae. It is mainly distributed in the United States, Canada, and northern Mexico, and is commonly found near lakes, rivers, coastlines, and wetlands, feeding on fish, waterfowl, and other small animals. The most distinctive feature of an adult bald eagle is its white head and tail feathers, contrasting sharply with its dark brown body; its beak and legs are usually yellow.
