1. Introduction of Female Sculpture Bust
Adèle d’Affry (1836-1879) was a 19th-century Swiss sculptor and painter, born into a noble family in Fribourg and later becoming Duchess of Castiglione-Colonnaux. She is better known by her artistic signature, Marcello. Given the difficulty for women to enter the professional art world at the time, she used this more masculine name to participate in the Paris Salon and gradually build her reputation. She excelled in portraits, busts, and figure sculptures, her works often characterized by delicate facial features, elaborate clothing details, and dramatic poses.
