1. Introduction of Egyptian Figure Sculpture

Ancient Egyptian sculpture adhered to a strict principle of “frontality.” Whether standing, sitting, or kneeling, figures were depicted upright, facing forward, presenting a solemn and sacred posture. This representational style was not a pursuit of naturalistic realism, but rather closely tied to the sculpture’s religious function. Statues were seen as symbolic carriers of gods, pharaohs, or the dead, and served as crucial vehicles for religious worship and ritual. Within temples, tombs, and other ceremonial structures, these sculptures were intentionally placed in a frontal position to receive prayers and offerings, thereby enabling communication between humans and the gods or the dead. This ancient Egyptian Figure Sculpture, dating from approximately 600 to 300 BC, is a typical example of late Egyptian figurative sculpture.

From its exterior, the figure maintains a typical squatting posture, with knees bent close to the chest, and the body taut and compact. The head is well-proportioned, with clear facial features, deep-set eyes, a straight nose, and pursed lips, conveying a restrained and solemn expression. The hair is depicted in neat curls. Although the Egyptian Figure Sculpture has gone through thousands of years of history, clear carvings are still left on some parts, and the overall shape is dignified and powerful.
