1. Introduction of Constantine XI Palaiologos Statue

Constantine XI Palaiologos was the last emperor of the Byzantine Empire and one of the most symbolic figures in the final stage of the Eastern Roman Empire’s history. He ascended the throne in 1449, during the empire’s final decline. In 1453, the Ottoman Empire besieged Constantinople. Facing overwhelming odds in both manpower and resources, Constantine XI refused to retreat, choosing to defend the city to the death, and ultimately died on the front lines on the day of its fall. This Constantine XI Palaiologos Statue is modeled after Constantine XI, emphasizing his dual identity as both “last emperor and warrior.”

The figure wears a Byzantine-style imperial crown, his face solemn and resolute, with meticulously detailed hair and beard. He wears a heavy cloak over armor, the folds of which drape naturally. His right hand holds a sword, symbolizing his military command, while his left hand holds a flag adorned with the double-headed eagle emblem of the Palaiologos dynasty. Made entirely of bronze, the Constantine XI Palaiologos Statue is suitable for use in plazas, historical memorial spaces, or cultural parks as a symbolic sculpture about the end of an empire and historical memory.
