1. Introduction of Commodus Sculpture
Commodus was the son of the Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius, reigning from 180 to 192 AD. His reign marked the end of the Antonine dynasty. Historical records indicate that Commodus was passionate about self-portrait creation, particularly favoring associating himself with mythological heroes, and frequently emphasizing his extraordinary status in public. This Commodus Sculpture is a full-length standing statue of a male figure from ancient Rome, depicted in an upright posture with one leg bearing weight while the other relaxes naturally, creating a stable structure.
The upper body is bare, with clearly defined and proportionate muscles in the chest, abdomen, and arms. A long robe drapes over the shoulders and back, cascading naturally from the shoulders with clearly defined layers of fabric. A laurel wreath is worn on the head, fully revealing the facial features.
