1. Introduction of Callipygian Venus Sculpture
This sculpture is the famous Venus Callipyge (Venus of the Beautiful Hips), a marble replica from the Roman period (circa 1st-2nd century AD), with the original bronze sculpture dating back to the Hellenistic period. Currently housed in the National Archaeological Museum of Naples, Italy, Callipygian Venus Sculpture is one of the few examples of classical sculpture that focuses on the back of the body as its aesthetic core. “Callipyge” comes from Greek and means “possessing beautiful hips.”
The Callipygian Venus Sculpture presents a highly elegant and dynamic twisting pose: the figure moves forward, but the upper body is clearly turned back, the head looking back at its own back, creating a strong visual guide. She lifts her clothing with both hands, causing the fabric to rise and gather above the waist, clearly showcasing the contours of her back and hips. The body proportions of the Callipygian Statue are balanced, with smooth curves. The hairstyle is a curled bun, with simple yet orderly details.
