1. Introduction of Aphrodite of Rhodes Statue
This Aphrodite Venus Statue, modeled after “Aphrodite of Rhodes,” belongs to the “squatting Venus” type common in the Hellenistic period. The original Aphrodite of Rhodes Statue, created around the 2nd to 1st century BC, was unearthed in Rhodes in 1923 and is now housed in the Rhodes Archaeological Museum. This type differs from the earlier, dignified, and static Venus figures, emphasizing a natural moment in an everyday situation, often interpreted as a pose during bathing or grooming.
From its appearance, the figure is in a squatting position, one leg supporting the body while the other is bent and tucked in, creating a compact and stable overall structure. Both hands are raised simultaneously, twisting the hair to the sides, as if wringing water from the hair. The head is slightly tilted, and the facial expression is serene and natural. The body lines are fluid, with a natural transition between the shoulders, waist, and legs, highlighting the soft feminine curves. The curly hair is meticulously depicted.
