1. Introduction of Diadumenos Statue
Diadumenos (Headband Wearer) are one of the most famous types of athlete sculptures from the Classical period of ancient Greece. The original is usually attributed to the sculptor Polykleitos, created around 420 BC. The name comes from Greek and means “the one tying his headband.” The Diadumenos Statue depicts the moment a young athlete, after a competition, ties a headband symbolizing honor onto his head. Based on the classic composition of Diadumenos, the figure is a nude young male, his head slightly turned to the side, his arms bent and raised to the sides, simulating the action of wrapping the headband around his forehead.
The body employs a distinct contrapposto (contrasting balance), with one leg bearing the main weight while the other is relaxed naturally. The muscles of the chest, abdomen, back, and legs are clearly defined. A tree-like support is placed beside the figure. The overall form of this Diadumenos Statue is upright and proportionally harmonious, suitable as a sculpture for courtyards, art spaces, museum displays, or classical architecture.
