Ralph Baer (1922–2014) was a German-American engineer and inventor, often referred to as the “father of home video games.” Born in Germany, he later immigrated to the United States, working in electrical engineering and television technology. In the 1960s, he conceived the idea of turning ordinary television sets into interactive entertainment devices and led a team to develop the prototype, the Brown Box. This system later evolved into the Magnavox Odyssey, launched in 1972, and is widely considered one of the earliest commercially available home video game consoles. This Ralph Baer Statue, is located in Manchester, New Hampshire, to commemorate his pioneering role in the history of video games.
The Ralph Baer Statue is a bench-style public art piece. Ralph Baer sits on one side of the bench, legs crossed, holding a square device resembling an early game controller, directly echoing his inventive identity. The figure wears a shirt, tie, and vest, glasses, and has a serene expression. There are empty seats on the other side of the bench where visitors can sit down and take photos, making the memorial sculpture interactive. Arturban statue can customize various figure statues.
