This large-scale weathering steel pine cone sculpture is based on the structure of a natural pine cone, magnifying the originally small plant form into an outdoor art installation with expressive landscape features. Each scale required cutting, bending, and adjustment according to its designed position before being welded layer by layer to the central structure. The overlapping of scales of different sizes and angles makes the overall shape fuller and provides rich variations when viewed from the front, side, and back.
After a post-treatment to achieve a rust-colored finish, the weathering steel will develop a brownish-red effect similar to a natural pine cone.
