1. Introduction of Venus of Capua Statue
This marble venus statue, modeled after the famous “Capuan Venus,” is a significant representation of the ancient Greek goddess of love, Aphrodite, from the Roman era. The original Venus of Capua Statue was unearthed in Capua, Italy, and is now housed in the National Archaeological Museum of Naples. Visually, the figure stands with one leg bearing weight, the other slightly bent, creating a natural shift in the center of gravity.
The upper body is bare, with clean, flowing lines at the shoulders and abdomen; the lower body is wrapped in fabric, the folds cascading down from the waist in clear detail. The arms are outstretched, one hand raised upwards, the other extending forward and downward, creating a distinct kinetic relationship (in the original, this is often interpreted as holding a shield or an object used for viewing one’s own image). The head is slightly turned to the side, the facial expression serene, exhibiting a typical classical restraint. The hair is styled in a coil with delicate curls.
