1. Introduction of Seated Kuan Yin Statue
Guanyin Bodhisattva, also known as Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva, is one of the most representative bodhisattvas in Buddhism. The name “Guanyin” originates from the classical description of her “observing the sounds of the world,” emphasizing her compassionate understanding of the plight of sentient beings and her manifestation to guide them according to their needs. Guanyin’s imagery is highly diverse, including standing, walking, and seated postures. This group of Seated Kuan Yin Statues is carved from white marble, depicting a seated figure on a lotus throne, with a stable structure and harmonious proportions.
The facial features are delicately sculpted, with slightly lowered eyes and a gentle, restrained expression. The robes drape naturally from the shoulders, with distinct layers and flowing, restrained lines. The two Seated Kuan Yin Statues differ in the details of their hands: both hold a vase in one hand and form the abhaya mudra (gesture of reassurance) with the other. However, in one Kuan Yin Stone Statue, the vase is upright with the mouth facing upwards, conveying a dignified and stable posture; in the other, the vase is held upside down, with the mouth facing downwards or slightly tilted, and the wrist angle is more relaxed. White marble has a fine texture and pure color, making it suitable for display in gardens, courtyards, or the exterior spaces of temples.
