1. Introduction of Gaius Statue
Augustus, born Gaius Octavius, was a prominent political figure in the late Roman Republic. After Julius Caesar’s assassination in 44 BC, Octavian, as his adopted son, rose to power. Through a series of political and military struggles, he defeated his rivals and was finally granted the title “Augustus” by the Roman Senate in 27 BC, becoming the first emperor of the Roman Empire. This Gaius Statue is based on the standard imperial image of Augustus in his youth, presented as a full-body standing statue.
The figure in the Octavian Augustus Statue is meticulously proportioned, with a stable posture, one leg bearing weight while the other is relaxed. In the Gaius Statue, Gaius Octavius wears Roman military attire, with intricate relief carvings on his breastplate and a short, slatted lower body. A long robe drapes over his left shoulder, flowing naturally down his body. His right hand hangs naturally, while his left hand holds a scepter.
