Antinous (c. 111–130 AD) was the most beloved young companion of the Roman Emperor Hadrian and is one of the most famous “eternal youth figures” in ancient history. Born in Bithynia, he entered the emperor’s court with his outstanding appearance and gentle temperament. In 130 AD, he drowned while traveling with the emperor to Egypt, and the cause of his death remains a historical mystery.
