1. Introduction of Abstract Dog Statue

Alberto Giacometti is the most representative modernist sculptor of the 20th century. He is famous for his thin human sculptures that express the state of human existence. His artistic style is influenced by existentialist philosophy, emphasizing loneliness, fragility and the tension of life. His works usually use elongated shapes, rough textures and silent postures to create an introverted emotional atmosphere. In terms of sculptural language, he abandoned traditional proportions and realism and instead pursued a high degree of unity between spirit and form. Although the two Abstract Dog Statues in the picture are not Giacometti’s original works, they are obviously deeply influenced by his artistic style.

The first sculpture expresses the animal’s alertness and fatigue with extremely slender limbs and drooping head, as if it is walking cautiously in the city. The surface of its material presents an irregular and rough texture, emphasizing the primitiveness and fragility of the state of existence. The second Abstract Dog Statue is longer in size, with a drooping tail, shaped like a hound, with smooth lines and a sense of fragmentation, highlighting loneliness and desolation.
